GIS Technician

2Dot is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, enthusiastic individual to fill a GIS Technician position based out of Denver, CO.  Work assignments will vary depending upon project types.  This position is fulltime, permanent, with health benefits.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Managing large spatial databases.

  • Creating, editing, tabulating, and displaying spatial data.

  • Manipulating data to serve a variety of purposes.

  • Preparing map exhibits in ArcGIS.

  • Automating day to day tasks to improve efficiency.

  • Operating a Trimble GPS unit (Juno 3b, Geo 7X, etc.) for field data collection.

  • Conducting mapping research in the field with mobile field mapping and data collection software (i.e. ArcPad).

  • Transferring GIS data to and from Trimble GPS Units and resolving conflicting information and ensuring accuracy of the data on the fly.

  • Performing threatened and endangered species surveys, vegetation mapping, and quantitative vegetation monitoring, under the direction of senior biologists.

  • Assisting with wetland delineations.

  • Field work: Performing wildlife, raptor surveys, operating Trimble GPS units, and operating a soil auger and installing groundwater monitoring wells.

  • Writing technical reports and resource agency permit applications.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in using a GIS and managing geographic data. Preference will be given to those whom also have experience performing professional biological work in the field of natural resources consulting or management.

  • An Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Biology, Environmental or Natural sciences, or a related field.

Requirements:

  • Must have experience in using ESRI ArcGIS products

  • Must be able to manipulate, store, extract, and understand geographic data

  • Must be familiar with ArcGIS Map Design

  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil a plus

  • Bonus for the following:

    • Experience using StormCAD or equivalent

    • Experience with hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS)

    • Experience with hydrologic modeling (HEC-HMS or equivalent)

    • Experience with UDFCD CUHP/SWMM modeling

  • Ability to interpret topographical maps and aerial photos for the purpose of route finding and habitat assessment.

  • Must be able to conduct field work, walk, hike, and scale uneven terrain carrying 15 to 20 lbs. of gear for 6 to 10 miles/day in adverse weather conditions during the performance of field surveys.

  • Install groundwater monitoring wells. Must be able to walk across uneven terrain carrying 30 to 50 lbs. of equipment, including containers of sand, up to ½ mile from work truck. Must be able to hand auger 4-inch diameter wells in loamy, light soils to heavy clay. This task can require extended physical upper body exertion.

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Biology, Botany, Rangeland Management, Environmental Science or related discipline, or in the process of acquiring a related degree.

  • Must have excellent attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to learn and identify flora and fauna.

  • Must be able to use MS Excel/Word efficiently.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to travel out of state for up to 10 days and perform field work in a variety of extreme outdoor conditions, including remotely situated job sites, with hot, dry, windy, or cold conditions.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team setting as well as a self-starting individual.

  • Must be independent and able to follow protocol.

The ‘Ideal Candidate’ will have a mix of field and office experience, have experience using ArcGIS products for database management, map design, and spatial analysis, and have some biology experience and familiarity with common plants and habitats of the Front Range.

Environmental Specialist I and II (Full-time and Seasonal)

Two Dot Consulting (2Dot) is seeking dedicated, hardworking, enthusiastic individuals to fill a Full-time and Seasonal Environmental Specialist I and II position based out of Denver, CO. Work assignments will vary depending upon project types. The Candidate will need a mix of field and office experience, be comfortable with Arc GIS, have completed their Safeland-USA and H2S Training, and be living near Denver, CO.  The job requires fieldwork (walking in uneven terrain up to 8-12 miles a day with a 15-20lb. back-pack, working in inclement weather) and potential travel to CO, WY, ND, and UT.  

Candidates must have at least 1-3 years of experience and certain certifications and training may be necessary. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Good communication and writing

  • Travel up to 10 days (per diem and hotel provided)

  • Performing Wildlife, Raptor, and Migratory bird surveys using a range of bird sampling techniques including pedestrian transects and visual/auditory identification

  • Performing plant, habitat and threatened and endangered species surveys

  • Assisting with wetland delineations and mapping

  • Installing groundwater monitoring wells

  • Technical experience with Trimble and Garmin GPS units

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and goo driving record with the ability to drive 4x4 trucks off-road
